Klay Thompson to Sign $46M Contract Estimate

Klay Thompson's free agent status will linger over the Golden State Warriors until it is resolved this summer. Will he abandon his only NBA home?

Greg Swartz, a Bleacher Report columnist, expects the 34-year-old will sign a two-year, $46-million contract to stay with the Warriors.

"Starting at $22.2 million or less, use their taxpayer mid-level exception of $5.2 million to sign some outside help and fill out the roster with veteran minimum deals and still avoid the luxury tax line for next season."

Thompson is nearing the end of his Hall of Fame career.

However, he played 77 games for Golden State last season, averaging 17.9 points per game on 38% shooting from behind the arc.

His list of suitors will not be short. However, no team has a more extensive history with Thompson than the Warriors.

A two-year contract would align his next free agency with that of teammate Stephen Curry.

The conclusion of an era at Golden State is likely to resemble the beginning. Curry, Thompson, and Draymond Green are likely to return one last time in the hopes of securing a fifth shared championship.
