Packers GM sets deadline for Jordan Love contract negotiation

Jordan Love's contract extension is set to be signed this summer, and the Green Bay Packers want it done as quickly as possible.

Love has one year left on his current contract, but following a breakout rookie season as the Packers' starter, it's in both sides' best interests to sign an extension this summer.

The uncertainty surrounding Love's future would be a distraction. That is why we may expect the team to pay Love shortly.

Come on, it's the Green Bay Packers, not the Dallas Cowboys. Green Bay does pay its finest players.

However, striking a new deal is not straightforward. Jared Goff raised Love's asking price by agreeing to a $53 million contract deal with the Detroit Lions.

Any thoughts of getting Love to a contract of $50 million or less were dashed when the Goff news emerged.

Love will almost definitely land a deal in a similar range, possibly even higher, and Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst provided an update on when it will be completed.

Gutekunst was a guest on 97.3 The Game, when he was asked the million-dollar question. More specifically, the $53 million question. When will the Love deal be completed?
